What are PCR resins ?

PCR resin (Post-Consumer Recycled resin) is recycled plastic made from items people use and throw away.

These items include milk bottles, food containers, packaging, and other bottles.

After collection, the waste is sorted, deeply cleaned, shredded into flakes, and extruded into uniform pellets. These pellets become PCR resin, chemically matching virgin resin but with strong sustainability credentials.

PCR is commonly written as PCR resin, which stands for Post-Consumer Recycled resin. Sometimes this is shortened to just PCR for Post-Consumer Resin. They are interchangeable in most circumstances. PIR is Post Industrial Recycled (resin) or Post-Industrial Resin.

Difference between PCR and virgin resin

Virgin resin comes from crude oil or natural gas. It has consistent quality but a high carbon footprint.

PCR can cut CO₂ emissions by up to 60% compared to virgin plastic. It uses less fossil fuel. It also keeps plastic out of landfills and oceans. The main tradeoff: premium PCR grades have stable MFI, color, and purity, while lower grades show more variability.

PCR HDPE (rHDPE): Natural White / Milky White pellets for bottles, containers, household goods

PCR PP (rPP): For caps, closures, injection-molded parts

PCR PET (rPET): For beverage bottles and food packaging
